Learning Team Reflection Essay Example for Free

Learning Team Reflection Essay This previous week, our group has been going over and considering four principle goals. These fundamental goals are separating between gathering premise and money premise bookkeeping, the way toward making changing sections, and balanced preliminary adjusts. We will likewise on the whole talk about our assessments of what might be the most significant aptitudes learned in a bookkeeping position. In agreement to week three’s destinations, I would need to state that everything that we have gone over is basic to our achievement in future bookkeeping positions, nonetheless, we feel that the most significant expertise is to have the option to precisely record the inflow (income earned) and the outpouring (costs: utilities, and so forth. ) of monies. Accural versus Money Basis Accounting According to the readings, collection premise bookkeeping is characterized as in which organizations record, in the periods where the occasions happen, exchanges that change a companys budget reports, regardless of whether money was not traded. At the end of the day, it implies that recorded or un-recorded, all exchanges are taken and anticipated into the general parity. Money Basis Accounting premise in which an organization records income just when it gets money, and a cost just when it pays out money. This implies this methods for bookkeeping, just takes responsibility of the physical money that is at a physical area. The distinctions, Accural is all exchanges whether recorded, unrecorded, or anticipated. Money is the physical monies close by at a physical area and doesn't record income until installments are really made. Make changing sections This week we have been given a great deal of training on the most proficient method to make altering passages to money related records and inward monetary â€Å"memos†, (for example, accounting reports). There are five kinds of modifying passages: Accrued incomes †making acclimations to an assistance that has been performed however not charged. 1. Accumulated costs †costs, for example, compensation paid to a representative. 2. Unmerited incomes †installments for products or administrations to be conveyed sometime not too far off. 3. Prepaid Expenses †resources that are paid ahead of time and gets spent during the bookkeeping time frame. 4. Deterioration †procedure of dispensing the expense of an advantage. While changing sections are made, they are made continuously. These sections are significant with the goal that the net benefit or shortfall and the money related position can be built up. Set up a balanced preliminary equaliza tion. Once more, we have polished a ton this week in having the option to effectively and precisely modify passages in a wide range of money related reports and obviously, changing sections in preliminary adjusts have been a portion of those archives that we have taken a shot at. So as to be an effective bookkeeper, being to have the option to effectively modify passages in a preliminary asset report could be the very life factor in holding in bookkeeper position. On the off chance that we can't precisely record a preliminary equalization the probability of us having the option to hold our situation as bookkeepers is practically nothing.

It then results in the shortness of breath and hot flashes or chills. All these symptoms can increase your anxiety and can form a positive feedback loop in your mind.Very Important Note: Panic attack and its symptoms may also be mistaken for the symptoms caused by heart and lung diseases, hyp erthyroidism and side-effects of certain drugs. Severe anxiety can easily result in panic attacks.Anxiety during an occasion that seems too tense (e.g. too many people when suffering from social anxiety or a scenario of an accident) may also trigger the panic attacks.PTSDThose who suffered a horrific accident or those who went to battle or war are prone to panic attacks due to the trauma of their past experiences. The thought of those events trigger anxiety in their minds, resulting in panic attacks. Those who suffered from severe PTSD often experience panic attacks due to the overthinking that they experienced. It’s a very horrible sight to see war veterans who experiences the bitterness of war.Panic DisorderRepeated cases of panic attacks that seem to be pe rsistent are usual causes of panic disorder and not just panic attacks anymore.Panic attacks experienced by people who are suffering from this cause may link the cause of their stress. There are some things that you can try yourself:Breathing ExercisesYou can train to breathe efficiently as panic attacks can lose your proper way of breathing. This will make you realize that breathing affects your panic attacks. There are various studies that have proved the credibility of breathing exercises. The studies have shown that the symptoms of panic attacks came from hyperventilation a condition where your body releases too much carbon dioxide. To reverse hyperventilation, you have to perform slower breathing. Do this at the first signs of a panic attack. All you have to do is to breathe in for at least 5 seconds and then hold it for another 5 seconds before releasing all of it slowly for another five seconds or more. Breathe through your nose in order to do this. It lessens the severity of panic attacks. After slow breathing, and when you don’t have any panic attacks, perform a retraining technique for your breathing.Just pract ice the slow breathing pattern every 30 minutes per day. This will naturally make your breathing pattern better so then you can automatically protect yourself from any panic attacks.Physical Exercising Exercising may not be a home remedy in terms of the activities that you need to do. However, exercising is known to be one of the best treatments that you can do to prevent panic attacks. This is a great way to control all anxiety and stress that you have in your mind. Some people even push themselves to exercising whenever they think about stressful or traumatic events. There are various exercises such as yoga and even a simple jogging. But take note that there are also panic attacks that are induced by exercise. But this is only rare and there are separate treatments for those types of issues. It is very beneficial to do this as it provides the following:Reduces excess mental energy and muscle energy.Promotes a better sleeping pattern.Regulates the flow of hormones and burns off stres s hormones.Keeps you in a good mood.Improves your breathing.Calms the mind. The following benefits of exercising are enough to keep your panic attacks away. Some studies have also shown that most panic attacks and anxiety root from the lack of exercise combined with high levels of stress. So be sure to consider this extremely effective treatment.Don’t Be ReactiveTherapists even approve that you should not be too reactive when you get a panic attack as it will just worsen the condition. It’s best for you to just “accept” that you’re suffering from it right now and you must keep calm instead. If you do this while following the breathing exercise, you will be able to effectively lessen the symptoms of panic attacks until you finally calm down.To put it simple: don’t give in to your fear and anxiety!Lessen Your StressMinimizing your stress is the perfect way for you to reduce panic attacks as well. Be sure to avoid things that might increase your stress levels. Those factors tha t you need to avoid could be toxic people as well. There are times where caffeine and cigarettes can induce stress especially when you haven’t taken the substance within the day (if you’re already addicted to the substance). But if work is inevitable despite the stress, try to keep calm and just think about your goal positively in order to avoid stress.Seek Proper MedicationDon’t ever perform self-medication.You might want to medicate with drugs or alcohol at this moment, but that will only lead towards dependence and won’t really resolve the problem.Temporary alteration of your memory can cause brain damage and other problems like drug addiction and alcoholism. That’s why it’s best to talk to your doctor. They can provide the safety procedures such as therapies and medicines that you can do in order to treat your panic attacks. They can also provide medicines.Fluoxetine and Pareoxetine are the most common antidepressants that can help you calm your mind from panicking. You can also ask for benzodiazepine a fast-acting type of depressant that can relieve panic attacks and seizure. This is perfect for those with severe panic attacks.TherapiesMusic therapy is known to be one good way to provide your mind a sense of peace.Music has soothing properties depending on the tune that you prefer to play. There are a lot of audio that can relax your mind. But you can have the freedom to choose what music you want to play. For starters, here is one of the best music to prevent panic attacks: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy can be administered by a therapist to reduce your panic attacks. This helps you challenge your fears as it edicates you to replace your unnecessary fears with those that are more sensible to be afraid of. Theme of Isolation in William Faulkners A Rose for Emily...

The Theme of Isolation in A Rose for Emily As an author establishes the characters he simultaneously attempts to develop the theme of the story. An author uses various elements such as point of view, the setting, and symbols to work toward the expression of one central idea. In looking at A Rose for Emily. a short story by William Faulkner, it is evident that Faulkner successfully carries one main idea throughout the piece, the idea of being isolated from society. One of the most effective elements that Faulkner uses in his development of this main idea is the use of imagery. He portrays the father of Emily as a looming possessive figure, a figure of total control and dominance(Gwin 31). Emily has no say about what goes on†¦show more content†¦This reality sends panic and fear through her because now she has nowhere to turn and no one to tell her what to do, no one to command her life. Not only is she stricken with the loss of her father but now she is cut off to the outside world, because her only link has passed on. Emily immediately goes into a state of denial; to her, her father could not be dead, he was all that she had and she would not let him go. The day after his death all the ladies prepared to call at the house and offer their condolence and aid... Miss Emily met them at the door, dressed as usual and with no trace of grief on her face. She told them that her father was not dead. She did that for three days... Just as they were about to resort to law and force, she broke down, and they buried her father quickly (Faulkner page #). Without her father, she had no one to put any order in her life and wasnt going to let anyone else try. We remembered all the young men her father had driven away, and knew with nothing left, she would have to cling to that which robbed her, as people will (Faulkner page #). Another symbol Faulkner unobtrusively introduces is the crayon portrait of Emilys father looking down at her during the funeral. Throughout her whole life and even now in death her father had been and always would be there, watching, judging and influencing her life, knowing she had been daddys little girl to the end. Scholarship Essay Essays (296 words) - , Term Papers

Scholarship Essay A few days ago, as I was eating lunch with friends, I entered a heated debate a bout the worth of education. "I should not have to learn algebra and calculus because it will have no influence on my life," my opponent angrily shouted as I tried to defend the usefulness of mathematics. Three days later, I still mul l over the issue, trying to arrive at the origin of the disparity of views betw een my opponent and me. I treasure every bit of knowledge I gain, in or out of school. When someone contends that a particular academic field or realm of inf ormation has no applications, I feel compelled to demonstrate the fallacy of such an argument by citing an example from my life. As a middle-schooler in Moscow, Russia, I took English for three years. Many of my peers grumbled about having to attend the course, adamant in their belief that these skills would be never used. However, some, including myself, felt that any offer of knowledge was to be accepted and stored away for possible later use. Lo and behold, three years after I signed up for my first English class, I found myself living in the United States, sending sincere thank you letters to my English teacher for supplying me with survival skills. If I had not taken my class seriously, my integration into the American society would have taken much longer. My attitude toward learning has not changed since. Striving to excel in every class I take, I regard education in all areas as relevant to my life, rather than remote. I try to link each piece of new information either to my intended field of study (Physics/Mathematics) or to personal enlightenment. Living up to my motto, "The measure of learning is its application," I prepare myself for all situations and achieve well-roundedness.

Free Essays on Classroom Management Plan

Classroom Management Plan A successful manager must practice preventative management when it comes to dealing with classroom behavior. I believe that it is very important to establish control over the classroom right from the first day of the school year. The rules and regulations of my classroom will be clearly outlined for the students on an agreement that would be signed by them and their parents. I plan to include in this outline what I expect from the students in terms of appropriate behavior in the classroom as individuals, and in working together in groups. In addition, in order to establish a safe and cooperative learning environment, students will be reminded that they are to have great respect for their classmates. It is crucial that a student be instructed to respect the thoughts and ideas of others. Moreover, they also need to learn proper manners in working with other human beings. In explaining the rules, I would never do so in a stern fashion. Rather, I will leave the students with a feeling of confidence in their ability to cooperate with their classmates in successfully completing their course work. Once these rules are established the teacher should be consistent and fair in enforcing these rules and the penalties that are incurred by the students for breaking them. Effective rules are not the only component to preventative management in the classroom. Lessons must also be carefully planned in order to keep student attention. If a teacher is to be an effective classroom manager then he or she must keep the attention of the students throughout the entire class period. I believe that if there is some extra time at the end of a class period, there is nothing wrong with allowing students to do their homework or converse quietly. However, all teachers should let students know from the beginning of the school year that this is a privilege that can be taken away if it is abused. It is important for students to learn that su... Evolution of the Fight or Flight Response

Evolution of the Fight or Flight Response The goal of any individual living creature is to ensure the survival of its species into future generations.  It is why individuals reproduce. The whole purpose is to make sure the species continues long after that individual has passed away. If that individuals particular genes also can be passed on and survive into future generations, that is even better for that individual.  That being said, it makes sense that, over time, species have evolved different mechanisms that help make sure that individual will survive long enough to reproduce and pass down its genes to some offspring that will help make sure that the species continues on for years to come. Survival of the Fittest The most basic survival instincts have a very long evolutionary history and many are conserved between species. One such instinct is what is referred to as fight or flight. This mechanism evolved as a way for animals to become aware of any immediate danger and to act in a way that will most likely ensure their survival. Basically, the body is at a peak performance level with sharper than usual senses and an extreme alertness. There are also changes that happen within the bodys metabolism that allow the animal to be ready to either stay and fight the danger or run away in flight from the threat. So what, biologically, is actually happening within the animals body when the fight or flight response has been activated?  It is a part of the autonomic nervous system called the sympathetic division that controls this response. The autonomic nervous system is the part of the nervous system that controls all unconscious processes within the body. This would include everything from digesting your food to keeping your blood flowing, to regulating hormones that move from your glands, to various target cells  throughout your body. There are three main divisions of the autonomic nervous system.  The parasympathetic division takes care of the rest and digest responses that happen when you are relaxing. The enteric division of the autonomic nervous system controls many of your reflexes.  The sympathetic division is what kicks in when major stresses, like an immediate threat of danger, are present in your environment. Adrenalines Purpose The hormone called adrenaline is the main one involved in the fight or flight response. Adrenaline is secreted  from  glands on top of your kidneys called the adrenal glands. Some things adrenaline does in the human body include making heart rate and respiration faster, sharpening senses like sight and hearing, and even sometimes stimulating sweat glands.  This prepares the animal for whichever response- either staying and fighting the danger or fleeing away quickly- is the appropriate one in the situation it finds itself in. Evolutionary biologists believe that the fight or flight response was crucial for the survival of many species throughout Geologic Time. The most ancient organisms were thought to have this type of response, even when they lacked the complex brains that many species have today. Many wild animals still use this instinct on a daily basis to make it through their lives. Humans, on the other hand, have evolved beyond that need and use this instinct in a much different way on a daily basis. How Daily Stress Factors Into Fight or Flight Stress, for most humans, has taken on a different definition in modern times than what it means for an animal trying to survive in the wild. Stress for us is related to our jobs, relationships, and health (or lack thereof).  We still use our fight or flight response, just in a different way. For instance, if you have a big presentation to give at work, most likely you will become nervous.  The sympathetic division of your autonomic nervous system has kicked in and you may have sweaty palms, a faster heart rate, and more shallow breathing.  Hopefully, in that case, you would stay to fight and not turn and run out of the room in fear. Once in awhile, you may hear a news story about how a mother lifted a large, heavy object- like a car- off her child. This is also an example of the fight or flight response. Soldiers in a war would also have a more primitive use of their fight or flight response as they try to survive in such horrific circumstances.

QUESTIONS Thoroughly read Chapters 7 through 10 of the Policy Issues Essay

QUESTIONS Thoroughly read Chapters 7 through 10 of the Policy Issues textbook, and then prepare an annotated bibliography for - Essay Example Scientific research and understanding creates practical technological applications which in turn require institutional implementation and management which in turn lead to more technological change as specific implementations are made which in turn leads to more scientific change. Therefore, science and technology policy have to bear in mind that innovation is more complex than a simple model of science and technology leading to innovation. Metcalfe moves on to distinguish between types of policy and innovation, such as academic scientific research versus practical technology, and further notes that despite their dialectical interrelationship, science and technology are different things. Finally, he ties this in with economic policy. Freeman, C. 2002, â€Å"National Systems of Innovation†, Policy Issues for Business, ed. Vivek Suneja, Sage Publications Ltd. Freeman expands on the analysis made by Metcalfe by noting that innovation is inherently dynamically social: No firm innov ates on their own, and technology and science are best done in systems of shared, free inquiry. Networks of governmental, scientific, educational, business and NGO innovators produce innovation over time. Freeman notes that the Friedrich list, a system whereby Germany specifically tied industrial and technological policy in the arena of education, was highly efficacious. He also notes that in Japan, R&D and business are tied together specifically, while in Russia, R&D and enterprise were often quite distinct. However, he does note that the Soviet Union's R&D and scientific research was not bad by any stretch of the imagination: They focused on arenas like mathematics, military innovation and space travel. This indicates that the priorities of national policy have direct and indirect results on atmospheres of innovation and creation. Freeman concludes by arguing a) regional and local factors will remain important in any technology and innovation policy no matter how globalized and in tegrated the world becomes, and b) Britain's experience should lead policy-makers to conclude that while learning by doing and interacting are important, innovations needs to be stressed at a systemic level. Porter, ME. 2002, â€Å"The Competitive Advantage of Nations†, Policy Issues for Business, ed. Vivek Suneja, Sage Publications Ltd. Porter continues in Freeman's vein by analyzing what makes nations competitively advantageous in the global marketplace. Strong investments in science and technology, a skilled workforce, government support and culture are all good elements, unsurprisingly, but Porter argues that in fact challenges can be opportunities. A country facing competitive challenge at home and abroad, difficult and selective customers, and aggressive suppliers will be highly effective if it can survive the challenges and weather the storm. Aside from noting the influence of national playing fields created by national policy, Porter also recommends that firms, even i f they are local or nationally oriented, should adopt a global perspective and strategy, and should move towards trying to sell under their brand name globally and control their business directly even on the global level rather than using middlemen. Porter also notes that, since markets change so rapidly, they are likely to obviate and make advantages obsolete, so companies need to treat even presently relevant advantages as soon likely to be obsolete

The Internet and Intellectual Property Laws Essay -- Internet Online

The Internet and Intellectual Property Laws With the emergence and growth of the internet, intellectual property laws are much harder to enforce and many people are saying that they are outdated and obsolete. Intellectual property allows you to own your ideas, thoughts, and creativity as you would own a piece of tangible property. The human mind is a creative tool that comes up with ideas, designs, schemes, and inspirations of all kinds. Intellectual property views these ideas as being property. The ideas must also have commercial value and be a tradable commodity otherwise there would be no point to protect it. Intellectual property is basically the ownership of ideas. If one were to write a novel, for which the idea was conceived in there mind, they could copyright that novel so that no other person could steal that idea and write another novel on it. Copyright is a type of intellectual property. The main types of intellectual property are patents, trademarks, trade secrets, and copyrights. There are many issues arising abou t copyright and intellectual property due to the technological advances in the past ten years or so. A patent is a way to protect your invention. A patent makes sure that no other person can make, sell, offer for sale, or import your invention for a certain amount of time, in Canada it is 20 years. Since you have put a lot of time and effort into creating and producing your product, a patent prohibits others from copying your creation so all of your time doesn’t go to waste. This allows you to properly market your creation and prevent competition in the early stages of your commercialization effort. Illinois Employers Essay

The Illinois WARN reduces the number of employees required for an employer’s notification, which should be done 60 days advance, in case of layoffs or closing. It reduces from 100 (as set by the federal WARN) to not less than 75 full-time employees who has a combined working time of 4,000 hours or more per week. Also, 33% and at least 25 full-time employees or at least 250 full-time employees are required for mass lay offs which is half the requirement of the federal WARN. Other government officials must also be informed in case of reallocation. Noncompliance with the Act can be brought in the federal court by the concerned employees. COMMENT 1: Indeed, theses laws will have good impact in the community and may also decrease the unemployment rate. However, it will also trigger a fear on the side of the employer. Upon receiving a notice 60 days before the closing or lay off, the employees will surely look for a job. There, they may be times when the employees will leave their job even before the closing period once they find a new job. However, notification in such cases (closing or lay off and reallocation) will surely benefit the community will surely benefit the community as a whole for unemployment is sure to decrease. WARN really secures the employees interest by taking away the fear of being fired all of a sudden. Thus, employees will really feel secure as long WARN is in place since there is a law that protects their interest and work security. They are also more secure because noncompliance to the laws imposed by WARN can be brought to the federal court in which employers can be required to pay for the 60 days of non-notification. ESSAY 2 Almost all members of the community will be affected by the decision especially the smokers or costumers as well as the tobacco growers, manufacturers and the stores. The store has no obligation to not hurt tourism since every business is free to offer what product or services that they want provided that they didn’t violate the law. Neda does not set aside business ethics since even business ethics does not impose compulsory selling of tobacco. It is more like being responsible to the community since they aim to prevent lawsuits and criminal penalties due to unavoidable selling of tobacco to minors. COMMENT 1: Smokers and non-smokers are the ones that are truly affected by the decision to ban tobacco selling within the community. Neda does have the right to sell whatever she see fit thus, business ethics was not violated. Neda also have no responsibility on the tourism industry since what the decision she had made was meant for her own store only and not for the whole community. It just so happen that more and more agreed to her decision. However, there are times that business and personal ethics does not go hand in hand. There are times that in order to protect your personal ethics, you must violated business ethics and vice versa. Personal ethics is not a requirement of business ethics although most of the time, personally ethical are also business ethical. COMMENT 2: The stake holders that are mentioned are indeed the affected people by the decision. However, the most affected remains the consumers of the product, the smokers. They are the most affected because they are the ones that really depend on the use of the product. Regarding Neda’s decision, it is also right to say that both personal and business ethics had been taken for consideration. Another proof that showed that business ethics was also considered is that Neda protected not only the citizens but as well as the workers who are legally punished for selling tobacco on minors. It is also the concern of business ethics to ensure that their employees are doing legal jobs. Also, rather than decrease in tourism, the decision may also serve as a ground to increase tourism because of the good image that the community is able to portray. The tourists do not visit the community to smoke in the first place. It is also natural there are people that will accommodate those smokers who are suffering from the decision. Freeganism An Eco-friendliness Way of Living Essay...

The world is inhabited by numerous cultures consisting of different lifestyles. Freeganism is a subculture that is ordinarily unheard of. The characteristics are impressively diverse from those most would associate with everyday life. The capitalistic culture incorporates commodified food, organized structure, ‘hygienically clean’, easier accessible foods, and more individualization. On the other hand, a freegan culture is comprised of free food, a less organized structure, ‘dirty’ foods with a chance of being raw or rotten, slower food and lifestyle, and is more socially connected (Edwards and Mercer). Those living this standard of life are scavengers of the developed world, living off consumer waste in an effort to minimize their†¦show more content†¦This way of living is motivated not by laziness or incapabilities, but by a desire to devote time to community service, activism, caring for family, appreciating nature, and enjoying life. Choosing to lead a freegan lifestyle comes along with many obstacles. The obvious risk of consuming harmful bacteria is always possibility and has even sparked legal dispute as to whether or not it should be considered theft (Thomas). The complications go further than jumping from dumpster to dumpster in hopes of discovering something edible. This type of livelihood is very interactive and requires a vast amount of discipline. They focus on using less packaging, and less energy which demands them to pay attention to the detail of each substance affiliated with their life that people tend to take for granted, such as pop machines and the packaging of food (Edward and Mercer). Utilizing as few resources as possible can prove to be difficult and unfeasible by many. As a result of minimizing the amount of buying consumer goods, the clothing style will vary from person to person. Occasionally a group will find clothing, furniture, and accessories, but it’s most common for people to attend f lea markets, ‘freemeets’, or browse a website [www. freecycle.org] where users post unwanted items. The clothing could be in good condition or tattered and worn; it’s all dependant on the person and what is available. In practicing this eco-friendliness way of living their outlook of the world

Lao-Tzu vs. Machiavelli - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 4 Words: 1344 Downloads: 1 Date added: 2017/09/11 Category Politics Essay Type Compare and contrast essay Did you like this example? Lao-tzu vs. Machiavelli Government is the essential authority of a country or state, which directly affects society because it provides key securities. How directly involved should the government be in the personal lives of society? To answer this I will look to the ideas of Lao-tzu (sixth century B. C. ), believed to be author of the Tao-te Ching, and Niccolo Machiavelli (1469-1527), author of The Prince There are few ways in which they are similar, but have very opposite views and ideas of government. Lao-tzu’s view is government should not have optimal power over the people He feels as though the less people know they are being governed, the happier they will be. For example, in the Tao-te Ching Lao-tzu states, â€Å"If you want to be a great leader,/ you must learn to follow the Tao. / Stop trying to control. /Let go of fixed plans and concepts,/ and the world will govern itself. † (Verse 57) In Lao-tzu’s writing he refers to the governing body as master. If things happen as nature intends them there will be no need for the Master to make promises he cannot and does not intend to keep. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Lao-Tzu vs. Machiavelli" essay for you Create order For instance line 16 verse 29 of the Tao-te Ching, â€Å"The Master sees things as they are/ without trying to control them. /She lets them go their own way,/ and resides at the center of the circle. † Lao-tzu takes into consideration the individuals and what they can do for themselves, not what they can do for the master. The Master completes the task at hand and does not brag on himself. When this is done the people will think they have done the thing on their own and be proud. Lao-tzu believes people will do the right thing. Wealth and possession of lavish material things are of no concern. In a sense let go of desired things rather than needs. As Lao-tzu sees it when one person has no more than his neighbor he will not desire to have what he does not. Therefore theft will be nonexistent. Lao-tzu does not believe in the use of weapons, man should have no enemies. We are all human and should not bring violence to others. Violence is only â€Å"approved† of in the most urgent situation. If you must kill a man you should not be grateful, but regretful all that follow the Tao value human life. Too much government will lead to ill will toward the state and oppression of the people. When government doesn’t over burden its people, they are content. As Lao-tzu end the Tao,† If a country is governed wisely, / its inhabitants will be content. / They enjoy the labor of their hands/ and don’t waste time inventing/ labor-saving machines. / Since they dearly love their homes,/ they aren’t interested in travel. / There may be few wagons and boats,/ but these don’t go anywhere. / There may be an arsenal of weapons,/ but nobody uses them. / People enjoy their food,/take pleasure in being with their families,/ spend weekends working in their gardens,/ delight in the doings of the neighborhood. And even though the next country is so close that people can hear its roosters crowing and its dog barking,/they are content to die of old age/ without ever having gone to see it. † (Verse 80, Tao-te Ching) Machiavelli, on the other hand, is almost the exact opposite of Lao-tzu. Machiavelli refers to the governing body as the â€Å"Prince. â₠¬ The prince should gain and maintain power by any means necessary including the use of brute force. Unlike Lao-tzu Machiavelli believes the prince should consider nothing other than war. If he is not at war then he should be thinking of scenarios in which he and his army would protect themselves should an attack occur. Not doing so could lose the state for him as Machiavelli states, â€Å"it is evident that when princes have given more thought to personal luxuries than to arms, they have lost their state. †(p. 40) Machiavelli believes a man should always be armed. It makes more sense for an unarmed man to follow the orders of an armed than the opposite. If the prince does not educate himself in military affairs not only will he not be able to trust his soldiers but they will not follow his orders. The prince must appear to be good but behind the scenes he really is not. In order for him to appear generous he should display his wealth whenever possible. He will use his own resources first, then do everything he can to collect the money from the people. In doing so, his subjects will be exposed to poverty. This will cause them to distrust the prince and may lead to an uprising. To avoid such a catastrophe he must come across as a â€Å"miser. † He should not worry himself with this. Eventually he will prove he is not as greedy as he was thought to be. Once this is evident he can protect himself and wage war without raising taxes and stressing his subjects. Machiavelli thinks it is better for the prince to be feared than loved. As he explains, â€Å"And men are less hesitant about harming someone who makes himself loved than one who makes himself feared because love is held together by a chain of obligation which, since men are a sorry lot, is broken on every occasion in which their own self-interest is concerned; but fear is held together by dread of punishment which will never abandon you. †(p. 46) However, he must not be so feared to the point he is hated. To do so he must not take what does not belong to him. According to Machiavelli, a wise Prince will not keep his word if the circumstances for which he made a certain promise are no longer relevant. Machiavelli uses the following statement to defend this reasoning, â€Å"but since men are a sorry lot and will not keep their promises to you, you likewise need not keep yours to them. †(p. 48). At any point being deceitful will benefit him, he must do so, but not so obviously he will be found out. He will do something for the state and brag on himself as opposed to Lao-tzu, who would let the citizens think they had done such a great thing. The prince must also keep himself from being despised and hated. As stated above the things that would make him despised the most would be: if he were to steal money, land and women from his subjects. Machiavelli lists other things which will make a prince despised, â€Å"What makes him despised is being considered changeable, frivolous, effeminate, cowardly, irresolute. † In other words if the citizens feel the prince is quick to change at the will of another, appears that thing aren’t important to him, stressed or afraid his subjects may begin to think he is not worthy of being their prince. The prince must always â€Å"pretend† he is something he may not be. Where in Machiavelli’s idea of government the prince only thinks of himself and what he can gain; Lao-tzu’s master thinks of the citizens and what will work best to keep them happy. Though these two great thinkers are very different they do have one thing in common. This, generally speaking, at the end of the day as long as the state is maintained by the governing body everyone is happy. Be it with little or no government at all in Lao-tzu’s opinion or Machiavelli’s with the brute force of military and deceit. I feel if these two types of government came together as one, with little government involvement, but authority when needed the world might be a little bit better place Works Cited Jacobus, Lee A. A Tale of Two Cities The Victorian Era and the...

Joshua Wohlgemuth A Tale of Two Cities: The Victorian Era and the Abandonment of Spirituality Throughout the early to mid 19th Century, a new and cultural age took hold of Europe, specifically Great Britain with the commencing of the Victorian Era. Marked by impressive achievements such as the Industrial Revolution, La Belle Epoque, and the beginnings of an urban middle class, this era was also plagued with child labor, poor hygiene, prostitution, the constant class distinctions, and a bloody revolution. Many believe that the aforementioned events were caused by a distancing of the populous from the church, resulting in a lack of spirituality, while others maintain that this spiritual vacuum was a response to deteriorating conditions.†¦show more content†¦Dickens is able to portray such irrationality through the character of Madame Defarge. Defarge is a cruel revolutionary whose hatred of the aristocracy fuels a tireless crusade of killing and accusations. Eventually Defarge’s anger and illogicality culminate when she heads a campaign to indict and execute C harles Darnay for the crimes of his cruel aristocratic uncle, Marquis Evremonde. Defarge is unable to empathize with the innocent Darnay just as the aristocracy was unable to empathize with the bourgeois, symbolizing that the spiritual void has come full circle. The evolution of this omnipresent spiritual vacuum culminates in the final third of A Tale of Two Cities where Dickens makes it quite apparent through universal societal apathy that there was an abandonment of spirituality as a result of failing living conditions. Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities illustrates the frustrations that critics had with a diminishing sense of spirituality during the Victorian Era. Dr. John Stith Pemberton, a local pharmacist, produced the syrup for Coca-Cola ®, and carried a jug of the new product down the street to Jacobs’ Pharmacy, where it was sampled, pronounced â€Å"excellent† and placed on sale for five cents a glass as a soda fountain drink. This is how the consumers perceive the advertising in both of the countries, which are totally distinguished from each other. Marketing Communication process Above is the marketing communication model which implies how the communication flows from a sender to a target audience (Receiver). It clarifies how the process works when the communication executes from another source to another. Initially, when a sender intends to send a message, the messages get encoded so that it can be presented through some media to the receiver. Then, as the media presents the message in encoded format through the media there emerges some noise which affects all the components of the communication process. As it passes by to the receiver then a receiver decodes the message as per his/her own perception. The receiver acts as how the messages have been perceive by him/her. The impact goes to the sender as upon the results being achieved or not, through the behaviour of consumers. The coca cola companies in both of the countries follow the same process to undertake the marketing communication, just the matter fact is about the way the consumer perceive or ways of decoding the encoded messages. Like in UK mostly the messages focuses on attracting consumer through standardised messages, whereas in Nepal, still tries to centralise consumer through other beneficial issues.
